Recording TV uses disk space at about 2Gb per hour and I have stored quite a few programs TV on an external drive Gb usb2 interface I would have preferred a firewire external drive but the eyeTV uses the only firewire port and I wasn’t keen on spending the money only to find out that the TV unit and the HD were fighting over firewire bandwidth.

You will need to format the internal hard drive as NTFS if you want large file support, and this is why you will need a windows machine. Ext2 has no file size issues as FAT32 does. The firmware can be flashed over the network, or off the mass storage drive in the Tvix.
Change above required More I would recommend formatting the drive to NTFS. If I remember correct somone in this forum or possibly another forum I have read some posts that seem to imply that you need to reformat the HD to make it work with Mac’s – will this then mean there is an issue with 4Gb file size limits therefore stopping DVD images from being added?
I use a wireless network but presumably it is possible to simply connect the Tvix via a Ethernet cable crossover? Off to get one tomorrow now! Afterwards I will be transfering all of my media from the Mac.
